Job Description:
The Assistant Controller supports the client in overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance within an outsourced accounting environment. Working closely with the Controller and client stakeholders, this role leads month-end close processes, reviews financial outputs, and ensures adherence to US GAAP and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Controller also provides leadership to the accounting team, drives process improvements, and delivers financial insights to support strategic decision-making across multiple client engagements.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Close Management
- Lead and manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Review and approve complex journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Oversee preparation of financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of all financial data prior to client and management review.
Client Engagement and Advisory
- Participate in client meetings to review financial results, close items, and budget-to-actual performance.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis and performance trends.
- Support clients in understanding financial results and improving financial processes.
Accounting Operations Oversight
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including depreciation schedules and related compliance requirements.
- Ensure proper accounting treatment and adherence to client-specific policies and procedures.
Compliance and Controls
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, tax regulations, and other applicable standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits and financial reviews.
Financial Analysis, Budgeting, and Forecasting
- Prepare and analyze budget variances and financial forecasts.
- Lead financial analysis initiatives to support strategic planning and decision-making.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Leadership and Team Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
- Review team outputs and provide guidance to ensure quality and consistency.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Process Improvement and Strategic Initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and system utilization.
- Lead implementation of process improvements and automation initiatives.
- Participate in special projects and firm-wide strategic initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or any relevant course
- Preferably a Certified Public Accountant
- Minimum of 7 years of working experience in accounting, including at least 4 years in a supervisory role
- At least 3 years of US Accounting experience
- Proven experience leading client calls and serving in a client-facing capacity
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting standards, and complex accounting transactions.
- Proven ability to lead month-end and year-end close processes and ensure high-quality financial outputs.
- Strong capability in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modeling.
- Deep understanding of AP, AR, general ledger, and fixed asset accounting processes.
- Experience designing and implementing internal controls and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Excel for reporting and analysis.
- Ability to supervise, mentor, and develop accounting teams while driving performance and accountability.
- Has excellent oral and verbal communication skills
- Amenable to work in a Hybrid set-up
- Willing to work the night shift
